OT Sorry: Difference between 22 & 22 "magnum"

Sorry off topic, but what a better place to ask a firearm question that the PW Forum? My sister insists that her 22 "magnum" will take care of a mtn. lion. I think she's in left field. Would a "magnum" make THAT much of a difference from a plain old 22? If no one knows the answer, where can I find a gun forum? THX in advance.
