I never said it couldn't, but as I did say and several others noted, the lion could continue on and make the shooters day painful.
What is missing here is the intent. If the shooter wants protection from attack, then the 22 Mag is a poor choice. If the shooter wants to play sniper, then the 22 Mag would work.
That's a pretty good sized deer. Most of the deer that I've seen up there are little more than big dogs....= ) 120 lbs or so. It's rare to see a White Tail over 200 lbs and a Mulie over 280, although I did see one in CO over 450 lbs once.
