M-37 survey

I'm looking to replace my wimpy truck this fall. I'm looking for and doing research into the M-37 or M-715. I plan on using this vehicle for a 12 mile daily to work and an occasional hundred or so mile trip pulling a car trailer with a 2200# car. Questions I have to ask, What M-37 (year) would be the one to look for. What is the easiest engine swap, should I find one without an engine? Is it feasable to use a overdrive unit? Pros and Cons? Humble opinions count. If you don't want to add to a long thread, feel free to email me off list. Thank you,
