5:83 to 4:89 gear change - was it worth it ?

Could those of you who have run & worked your power wagons with 5:83's and later changed to 4:89's tell me if the benefits were really worth the cost? I don't mean the collector/hobbist who don't really work their trucks. Are there any real drawbacks with the higher gears and do you really notice any lose of working power?
My PW was built as a work truck.I bought it for a work truck and a work truck it will most likely stay as long as I own it because I know of no other truck as capable of so many different types of work as a PW.
