I just took delivery on a 2005 Durgano, hemi with towing package. I expect to tow my Power Wagons around to Iowa etc.

The owners manual says to use the tow button when towing, which locks out the lock-up on 4th and 5th gears in the transmission. They said the trans might overheat if you don't do this.

It seems to me that locking up the trans would cause less heat to be created because there would be no slippage in the torque converter.

When using my full size van to tow with a 318, I let it lockup if it could. When it was dropping out of lockup frequently, I would lock it out to prevent gear hunting.

So why would locking out the lock-up keep the transmission from overheating on the Durango?
