I agree with Keith, your tow vehicle should be as large as possible in comparason to the towed load. Your engine and axles may be able to get the load going at a pretty good speed just fine, but steering and braking are really what you need to worry about when towing. A Durango would be pretty marginal with that much weight. I used a '74 Ramcharger for many years to tow old Dodge trucks, and that was really pushing the limits. I then went to a '91 Dodge CTD 3/4 ton tow vehicle, which was better but still lacked enough safety margin for my taste. My present tow vehicle is an '03 Dodge CTD dually 1-ton, and I finally feel much more secure, but still not totally safe, with this setup. I don't think I would feel totally safe even with a new Peterbilt tractor and trailer, because towing is so much more dangerous that simply driving a lone vehicle.
