Greetings all, I have a '51 FFPW with an "after type" spur gear transmission. I find that the trany is a bit noisy for my tastes, which seems to be par for the course on these trany's. I'm currently running Sta-Lube 80W90 in it and I'm considering hanging to 85W140 to give a bit more viscosity at operating temperature and hopefully quiet it. I'm wondering if anyone out there has run 85W140 in this transmission for an extended period of time/miles and what you did you find for its performance? The trany has been rebuilt; kept all the original gears but all bearings have been replaced and clearances/backlash carefully checked. It doesnt sound as though its going to tear itself apart, and isnt bad up to about 45mph. But at 60 its loud.
