From what I have read some on another site:
The 'Late 50s passenger car head is the best flowing of the 230 heads. The chamber is shifted in the head casting towards the valves, unshrouding them somewhat, making it easier for the air to get in and out.

There is probably a few things that changed over the years manifolds, carb,head,timming,cam maybe others
