I tend to agree with what you’re saying Steve however George Asche strongly disagrees. When I was picking his brain he claimed that on a dyno, if only one change is made to any year 230...carburetion, cam, compression, balancing, or exhaust...fixing the bad exhaust pressures these engines have, even with the newer manifold, makes the biggest difference in hp & torque. He then went on to tell me he’s not fond of the Fenton headers. He says he far prefers a modified stock exhaust manifold...I can’t remember his reasoning.
How we got on the subject was that he told me not to waste a cent on cam or milling heads before going to a dual exhaust because the dual exhaust was the cheapest & will double the benefits of any of the other modifications.
I specifically grilled him on whether that’s maybe more of an issue on cars & once you’re dealing with higher rpm applications but he claims not.
Seems hard to imagine but he’s had a lot more experience with 230’s than me so ??
