In TM9 808 the Dept of the Army urges? demands? that you NOT drive the WC on hard road surfaces in 4wd. Is that them just being over-cautious, protecting their investment in materiel? or is there a good reason and if so what?

More specifically, does snow covered asphalt or concrete count as a "hard road surface" ?
