PAPER vs OIL Bath air filter?

MY PW has an after market paper airfilter mounted on the carb - like on hot rods. What are the pros and cons of going back to the oil-bath type airfilter? Do you really need to put the oil in it or is there a way to rig up a paper filter in the oil bath?
