So, got the vacuum leak problem fixed as you know from below.

So today is a whole different story. Figure I drive her to work today and show her off to all in our training.

Go out about 7 this morning to get it started and warmed up. She didnt wanna start. Over and over til the battery died. Hooked a charger up to it and still no go. take a closer look, and it seems the wire from the coil to distributor cap has come out of the distributor cap. Put it back in and it seems awfully loose. Get it fired and let it warm up before leaving.

Get about two miles from my house, almost halfway to work, and in the middle of the road, coming to an intersection, just dies! I coast to a stop at the light in the left turn lane. Now, because its stopped running, I cant get it started, battery is dead again! So I get a few drive byers to help push me outta the intersection, as a $%&(%^& motorcycle cop refuses to help, even thou IM in full uniform.
Get the hood open, and the coil wire has fallen out of the distributor again. After being a little peeved and saying a few choice words, I tried the wire the reverse way. SUNG, didnt know there was a right way and wrong way to put that wire on.

So I call a buddy to come jump start me, and he follows me to work, just in case. Made it ok. Talk to my buddy that came over to find the vacuum leak, and he tells me at lunch to bring it over to the shop and we can put it on the charger and see whats goin on. We have a nice SnapOn charger and reader to see what amps, volts etc are happening. He checks it and the battery is almost dead. Leave it on the charger over the rest of the day, and about 5:30 when we are done with class, I go back over. It has barley charged and when we check it again, it seems to not be charging with running.

By now our FEM, Fleet Equipment Manager, my boss in the winter, comes out and gets involved. Very knowledgable guy. We spent the next three hours going over every wire, the voltage regulator, battery, everything.

The voltage regulator points were stuck shut and were heating up the regulator. Fixed that. Then couldnt figure out why the battery wasnt charging.

Come to find out, after we removed the cover from the generator, IT WASNT REBUILT AS I WAS TOLD AND CHARGED FOR by a certain someone that did the rest of the motor rebuild. It has new brushes and thats it. The generator is not putting out anything to charge the battery.

So I will hafta pull it and have it fully tested and possibly rebuilt or a new one.

In the mean time, I guess Ill keep a trickle charger on it so I can still drive it once in awhile.

Sigh

But to end on a great note, the motor never sounded better with the vacuum ports plugged and the new line run from the oil filler tube to the air filter and it timed just right, SOUNDS BEAUTIFUL.

Even my buddy was impressed, and hes a hard core Chevy guy, lol

Thanks for everyones patience and help, hope no one minds my lengthy stories

Nick
