Don't pay to have the generator rebuilt. At least do some serious shopping be fore you make a deal involving money.

I paid about $120 to have mine rebuilt. I didn't want to deal with bad insulation on the field coils.

Turns out rebuilding was sand blast, paint and brushes. Did I mention sand balsting was done assembled? Within a month the sand had destroyed the bronze bushing. I wound up modifying a generic bushing to work, cleaning the whole assembly, and putting heat shrink tubing over every frayed wire I could get to.

Make sure your rebuild shop knows what a generator is and make sure you know what you are paying for.
