One of the biggest jobs I've had on my rebuild so far was dismounting the ancient NDT tires from rusted rims, sandblasting and painting the rims, then mounting up the new tires. No tire place would touch the job around me.
I tried to think of a way to safely air up the tires at home. It might help one of you someday.
I bought a 90 degree metal valve stem extender online from an RV supply place. I cut it in half and hose clamped a 20 ft section of hose in-between the two halves. This allowed me to screw my fill hose onto the tire, and literally go outside of the garage while I filled the tire. I used my tire gauge outside to make sure I had 50 PSI in the tire. I then de-flated it to 30 PSI and then felt safe in going back into the garage to remove the filler hose from the tire stem.
I think I paid $12 for the part. It was worth it not to worry about getting hurt. Here's a link to the part:
