John, I've struggled with old tire removal. I use my backhoe teeth to get the tire off the bead, but even that takes a while if they have been rusted on for 50 years. Once everything is cleaned up, mounting is a piece of cake, just do as Tim and the other guys say. Chains and get away, hide behind the garage when you air-up. Split rings have been used for a long time, there not that dangerous if worked on properly.
