This is a picture of a 1959 Sweptside, but except for minor changes in things like the tail lights the bed is the same as the 1957 and 1958 Sweptsides. This truck used to belong to Chris in ID, nice work Chris!
It may not be easy to tell in this picture, but the Sweptside bed is based on the 7 1/2 foot Utiline bed of the same year, note the Utiline tailgate for example. Then the rear quarter panels from a 2 door station wagon are added with an extra few inches added to the front of the panel to make sides to cover the Utiline bed. Because the quarter panels have to be lengthened to make them fit the bed, the bed side stainless is unique to the Swepsides. Station wagon stainless is too short.
Only the 1957-59 trucks got this special bed, which was during what we call the Power Giant era.
