With the trans out and in 2nd gear (tower is off so can't shift it, it's in 2nd), I can slightly rotate the output shaft back and forth and the input shaft responds. But, with the trans slid in as far as it's going (1 1/8" short of mating), I can no longer budge the output shaft, so I'm assuming the splines are engaged in the clutch.
As best as I can measure, the face of the trans is parallel to the face of the bell housing. I have two headless bolts as alignment pins and they are in the top two holes of the trans. What else can I try to get the shaft into the pilot bearing, assuming that is indeed my problem? The trans is hanging from an engine hoist, cab is off.
