A question for anyone who’s tried it .
I took my truck ( built on WC54 chassis and running gear ) in for its six monthly road worthiness check , the other day , and got rejected because , with the front wheels clear of the ground , they couldn’t move the wheels from side to side . They said some adjustment too tight ., should be able to rotate steering wheel by turning the wheel from lock to lock at the wheel , as can be done with a normal car .
It’s the standard Gemmer 170 steering box , with a ratio of 23.2:1 .
The steering is firm , and lash free , steers well on the road .
By loosening the sector shaft adjustment , moving the wheels from side to side is possible, indicating freedom of binding in upper and lower steering knuckle joints and or draglink joints , all of which are new and adjusted as per TM9-808 specs .
Anyone’s thoughts on this please .
