I actually did this swap years ago, but forgot about a few minor details.
Using a rebuilt, M37 unit with 4:89 gears. Using take out 3/4 ton axle shafts in the housing.
My question to anyone who did this swap and remembers this detail:
Did you have to cut down the length of the “AXLE” shafts?
Or did you make up the difference with a spacer?
It would appear I have to, as sliding the stronger 3/4 ton axle shafts into the housing, I’ve got quite a gap between axle shaft hub inner surface and the housings hub
Wouldn’t cutting down the length, ultimately loosing part of the spline length, loose strength?
Cutting using a grinding wheel; wouldn’t it loose the axle shafts temper or hardness?
