I've always heard something in the 5300-5800 range. In most states 6000 was (is?) considered the limit for a "light truck" (you used to see most pickups with "6000 gross" marked on the side of them) so I guess back in the day a PW was supposed to pay gross weight fees and stop at the scale shacks.
