Electric brakes are far more reliable than the other systems and can be used on vehicls with anti-lock brakes. They work equally well forward or reverse. If yours failed, they were most likely improperly adjusted/maintained. Feel free to read that last sentence again. Being in a rush will put you off the road as quickly as undersized/overloaded equiptment.
