They can be controlled from the cab they are hooked up to the vacum pump on your engine they run out through the bed and usually are hooked up through two recepticles just like a big truck. there is a recepticle to store air on the trailer and a hydrovac system workes like regular brakes installed lots of them in my fathers trailer shop built 60 48 ft dual tandems one year all for Hot Shotters dont remember any system failers saw very few brought in for anything and not suceptible to the problems like wiring etc. Much better system for towing heavy loads mile over mile down the load expensive to do though mostly parts. Also have you ever looked into torsion rides for your trailer with grease cert axles say 7000# removes many of your problems with springs etc.or even oil baths would cut down on a lot of your maintenance time just a suggestion . your trailer is very well built but the running gear under it can be improved for marginal money and proably give you better return just a suggestion. If nothing else the stuff on the trailer will ride better that the truck does.
