Any place stainless rubbed on steel, it gets enough iron onto it to interfere with it's stainless-ness. It also happens near welds, where the heat cooks off some of the alloy-ness.
But a rub down with 5-10% citric acid solution re-forms the chrome/nickel oxides, making it stainless again. I use a spray bottle and a green scratchy pad. Keep it wet for 20 minutes at room temperature, or only a few seconds if warm.
I would suspect lemon juice has enough acid to do the trick. I got my citric acid at the healthy foods market in the bulk spice section. Home brewers use it to make 'syrup' out of sugar. A pinch will also keep your honey from crystallizing.
