What you do to make syrup is mix just enough water in the sugar to dissolve it. Add 1/8 t per quart, and bring to boil. The citric acid breaks the bond between the glucose and the fructose (sugar is 50/50). That scant bit of CA prevents the bonds from re-forming. And it is not tasted in the final syrup.
