What is special about brake fluid. Yeah, I know, I could probably google it and find the answers, but I am looking more for practical opinions rather than a textbook answer.

I mean, the brake system is essentially no different than any other hydraulic system. Why do vehicles have to have a special fluid and not just a common non-foaming hydraulic fluid?
