Dodge NEVER used the Dana 70 front end under their truck again after (what) 1974 or 1975??
1994-2002 3/4-ton and 1-ton dodge diesel trucks did NOT have the Dana 70 front, they had the Dana 60 with ball joints (that are junk by the way) and all that vacuum disconnect BS, and NON-serviceable hubs (unit bearings) The rear end though was a Dana 80 in all 1-tons 3500 Dodges, the 3/4-ton had a Dana 80 rear when equipped with a 5spd or 6spd manual trans, the 3/4-ton auto trans trucks 1994-2002 had a Dana 70 rear
The king pin style Dana 60 front end that was used under the 1989-1993 Dodge diesel trucks are pretty hard to beat!! I have had them under 5 1989-1993 trucks I have owned, never broke one or had one fail, and I have used them pretty hard. One of my trucks has over 425,000 miles on it and the front end is still the original one! The Dana 70 rear end has been replaced/rebuilt though.
I would have to agree with Doug Cartwright, a king pin style Dana 60 front is stronger then a closed knuckle Dana 70 hands down!
