I have seen two big knuckle 44's broken, still have both of them, one had a JUNK ring and pinion with chucks floating around in there when I pulled the cover off. The 2nd one had a broken axle shaft, which also buggered up the knuckle. Both came out of 1966 W200's ex-forest service trucks. So maybe they got used as there were meant to be?
And I sold a good axle shaft to a guy with a big knuckle Dana 44, that broke his axle shaft, so that would be 3 big knuckle 44's that I know of that have broken parts.
