WC 1/2 ton Should I upgrade the running chassis

I am wanting to get your feedback on my project. Should I replace the chassis with a newer model or try to upgrade axels motor etc? What are your thoughts on the easiest way to get something rolling with the least amount of brain damage... PS this project is going to my 16 yr old daughter when its done.
