The only thing I'd throw into this is the time factor. If you go full bore on a modified you'll be hardpressed to get it done before she graduates. I've seen quite a few guys I work with get vehicles for a father/child project and not finish it because they or the child loose interest.
I'd suggest making sure the brakes are in good working order or upgrade those. She doesn't need 300HP and bigger axles.
