Everything's welded together -- frame extensions to frame, bumper to frame extensions, winch mounts to bumper, I'm amazed he didn't just weld the winch to the bumper while he was at it. I've never had much luck using a die grinder as a milling machine. It's a step up from a file, but just barely. I seem to go through a lot stones to remove a little metal. I'll just weld and drill. Hopefully it's all mild steel and the bit won't try to dive into one part of the metal or the other.
Had a weird thing recently where I was drilling large holes in a piece of 1/2" plate. The bit would get about 2/3 of the way through and then just stop cutting. I'd push it hard, use lots of cutting oil, take it out and re-sharpen it, but no matter what I did, it would immediately dull or chip. I even tried a real good bit I had, and dulled it as well. This happened on several holes. Finally I thought maybe it was some strange alloy and it was work hardening, so I annealed it, re-sharpened the bits, and tried again. Cut like butter. It was a piece of plate I got out of a scrap bin, so I don't know what it was, but I'm thinking maybe it was a moly alloy. It welded fine, and drilled fine as long as I kept cutting, but as soon as the bit would start to slip or get hot, it would harden right up.
