So your one of them guys that helped to drive up prices of home generators. HA! Long before the Y2K scare, we had been looking into an emergency back up generator system. The kind that ran on natural gas, and had a sensor that kicked in the gen when it detected main power loss.
I wish I would have gotten the damn system before all the damn Yuppies paniced, as the price more than doubled with that Y2K scare BS. We only have a 5K gen now, hooked up to a seperate circuit box. If we lose main power, I start up the gen, plug it into the house, and flip a switch for the breaker box, and we have limited power.
On emergency power, we have heat, and all the fridges/freezers, all sump pumps (we have 3), and a couple of lights get power. That's about all that little gen can handle, but it sure beats swiming in icy water in the basement. HA!
