A six year joke about my Y2K Generator was not so funny when all the power lines grew to 2 to 3 inches around and then the wind hit about 35 mph. What a mess, at least some are still up. There are thousands of poles broke in the Central Nebraska area including the huge transmission lines with double wood poles, or even the huge robot-looking metal structures.
I am back after 5 days of no real power and I am in a "good" area near a sub-station. I still have ice on the old cars and it was up to 1.5 inches thick or more on the north side. Lots of tree branches down. There are whole towns with no power.
My friend sold me a generator at cost after a trade show right before Y2K. I use it on the farm but this is the first time it was running the house. It is just 5000 watts but will runs most everything. If you plan what you turn on.... Nice to have heat and water. I may loan it to a neighbor now to help them out.
On a side note, huge chunks of ice are falling off of the 500 foot tall channel 13 TV tower. They are going right through the roof like butter. Not very safe. Ice Bombs are the new term.
Good thing I had my ice boots ready to run. They are some old hiking boots that I screwed hex head screws in from the bottom. Works great, no falls on the ice, slick on tile floors, hell on vinyl floors!!!
