winch chain and cable

I'm getting prices for cable for my mu-2 winch from a couple of rigging supply houses based upon the info in the PIF file. Also asking for a quote on getting the cable galvanized or stainless. Should the cable have a thimble with cable clamps on the end or an open socket where the chain attaches? Anyone know how long the chain should be and what size? tia
