Looks like you can flush the tank and set it so the fill tube is the lowest point and all that should wash out.

I never use silicon sealants as it squished out and gets where you don’t want it plus it can move and loose grip with time. That’s obvious when you pull a pan off and you can just peel the silicone sealant off in big strips. I always use a glue type gasket adhesive. Using silicon to fill gaps or make a gasket is just a poor bandaid. Valve covers are the worst thing to get sealed. A friend said get a thick cork/rubber gasket and seal both sides with a certain gasket glue and you will never have an issue. I can’t remember the sealant’s name right now. Yes it’s hard to get the valve cover off but it doesn’t leak and it keeps the engine bay a lot cleaner.
