George Asche, who is an old-time flathead rebuilder and enthusiast, says he runs Amsoil synthetic in his engines. I believe Charles Talbert of M-Series Rebuild also runs synthetic oils in the engine and in all the gearboxes and insists his customers do the same after any rebuild he does for them. There are a few other folks who use synthetic, but based on posts over the last several years, I think most guys are running conventional oil.

A lot of guys have trouble with leaking gaskets and seals when they run synthetic, but Charles says he doesn't because he is meticulous about the assembly work and type of gaskets and seals he uses. Not sure about George Asche or the others who use synthetic.
