Without actually seeing & driving that truck it's hard for me to comment on most of the areas you feel that truck lacks. I can't really see braking being one of the real problems. I can see that it likely won't stop as well as your 2003 Dodge, but it should certainly stop better than my 93 Dodge & miles better than a D400...depending on the year I guess. That truck is actually not that much heavier than a stock Ford so with the disc brake modifications I would expect it to stop better than a bone stock Ford.
I do believe you are right in saying that there are areas where that truck is under engineered for the power plant, but I still see few areas where it is weeker than a new truck.
That being said, this truck is 1/3 the price of a new truck.
I'm sure you've read this already but for those interested, you might want to read this Thread from the TDR regarding this truck & questions directed & answered by the builder...an ex-Cummins Mechanical Development Engineer.
I guess to each his own but I'd trust it & I'd be willing to put a few bucks on the line if I owned it challenging new truck owners on the hills!
Shall I buy it & we can have a tow-off? Ha Ha!
Take care Dan,
Marty
