Stupid arrogant truck is being grouchy again...
I worked on the no start ignition problem ALL weekend. I CANNOT get this goddamn truck started and running. IF... I do get it running once the engine warms up the
F-ing thing dies...
The voltage is 9+ to the positive side of the coil when the engine is running... However while watching the engine finish going through it's heat cycle and warm up, the voltage on top of the ballast resistor drops to 7+ (not enough for the engine to run, and it dies)...
Now it's my understanding that the 9+ volts flowing into the coil should also be flowing out of the coil voltage unreduced or within a reasonable amount .5 of a volt or so.
Here is where I think the problem is... However I spent my weekend troubleshooting and reconstructing the entire wiring harness. Not to mention until 4:30am last nite trying to get it to start... ( Just to clarify I used an Ohm meter to figure out which leads were which leads and I labeled every damn one of them
It looks to me that there are two wires leading away from the coil... One leads from coil to firewall and down to the ignition switch when connected solely to the coil it should 9+ volts in run mode (this wire checks out). Wire #2 has been traced back to post #2 on the electronic ignition box wiring harness... However when this wire is connected solely or together with wire #1 to the coil voltage drops to 1.5 volts (where would should be getting 9+ out) to go over to the ignition box to tell the distributor to fire!
You following me...
So this wire #2 leads me to believe that it somewhere along the line is either grounding out, or the electronic ignition box is bad. I swapped out the NEW ignition box with the original that has been tested and shows that it is completely operational and functioning. Nothing... the engine cranks but WILL NOT START...
Am I missing anything... I could wire this truck in my sleep. Short of ripping all the electrical out of the truck and starting over I don't know what to do.
