NV5600 to '93 Cummins

I've got the transmission to within 1.125" of the block, but something seems to be binding. The splines are engaged in the clutch, so why won't it seat all the way? I measured the input on the old Getrag 360 and the new NV5600 and they are identical. Could the fingers on the pressure plate cause this much resistance? Or maybe the throwout bearing is the culprit? Any and all ideas will be appreciated
