My parents had a cabin in New Mexico for about a decade, from the early 80's to the early 90's. I was a teenager and we lived in El Paso and we'd make the three-hour drive to the cabin a couple of times each month, all year-round. I really liked being there in the piney wooded mountains, but one thing I loved the most was our old Willys Jeep. Like yours, ours was a '48. I thought the flathead four-cylinder was one of the coolest things I'd ever seen. That Jeep would take us all over those mountains, and even towed my dad's 2WD Ford pickup up the muddy or icy hills when needed. I did a lot of my driver education in that thing, and quite a bit a vehicle repair education as well.
The Jeep came with the house when we bought it, and a prior owner had even built a garage just the right size to store the Jeep. So when it came time to sell the place, my parents thought it was the right thing to do to include the Jeep in the sale. It wasn't long after, though, that my dad regretted letting the Jeep go. To this day I often wish it was still in the family.
