axle bushings and seals

Hello everyone, greenhorn here looking for any insight on how to remove the brass bushings and old seals inside the axle housings. I'm restoring a 1954 flat fender PW and I have the front axle completely torn down. Inside the round knuckle, I can see the destroyed old seal behind the brass bushing. I've attempted to pull this bushing and seal out with my sliding puller and haven't been able to get any movement out of the brass bushing. I've yanked hard enough to almost pull the axle off the jackstands. Any insight/clues/ tricks of the trade to remove these would be greatly appreciated.
