I have a real small model and it just uses a reservoir that is filled at the beginning and no feed water pump. This would be the easiest and avoid the need for a power source for the pump. You could probably run a feed water pump from the engine if you had enough reservoir to get the engine going.
Have you considered a Sterling engine for this project? I think for what you are planning a Sterling would be perfect and much simpler. There are some small models available or one could be built with a basic machine shop.
