Here's the plan..
I'd like to use a steam engine at campfires to turn a rotisserie. The engine would be mounted up on the frame near the rotisserie. There would be a 5
gallon bucket of water on the ground next to it as a reservoir. The idea is to run some steel tube, maybe 3/8" dia. as a loop in the coals of the fire. The engine would run a feed pump to squirt water into the tube from the bucket to create the steam.
I only came up with this idea a couple days ago and thought it would be a hoot if I could pull it off. My first task was to locate an engine. Looked at a lot of engines and finally found one down under that looked perfect.
This is as far as I've got. I don't know how feed pumps work or are regulated. I assume this has been a solved problem for over a hundred years, but I've not yet looked into it.
I was hoping to ask you guys?
My idea for the boiler was to run the tube dry and just inject enough water to run the engine. I think, not sure, this is how he Stanly Steamer was run.
Anyway, that's the idea. Can you tell me anything about feed pumps? All I thought was that it would possibly be a geared down cam and plunger. But I'm just guessing.
Thanks!
