Diesel Fuel Question

I have used #2 Home Heating oil as a fuel for my diesel tractor and generator since 1985 with no apparent problems. Can this fuel be used in a Modern Diesel Pickup, such as a Dodge with a Cummins ? Does any additives need to be added ?
