Well, I got the slant 6 manifold all put back together and the heat riser gasket still leaks (in a different place, though). When it was apart, I touched up the surface just enough with a belt sander to get at least a little bit of clean surface all the way around. It had more rust buildup than deep erosion so I thought it would hold. I put acousti-seal on both surfaces and left the bolts loose until I had the manifold bolted to the block. Now the bolts are as tight as I can reasonably get them. I ordered another gasket set and will try again, but now I'm wondering I'd be better off using red RTV since it will cure solid before I fire up the engine, whereas the acoustiseal stays soft (about like roof patching tar) until it gets good and hot. If the second attempt doesn't work I guess I'll have to find a new manifold assembly, or maybe try making a "squishy" gasket out of asbestos paper or something. Also, any opinions as to whether the "copper" high-temp RTV is better than the ordinary red kind?
