Okay, I will run the 90 wt GL4. The 140 is just going in chain saws from now on, plus maybe the occasional winch. I think I paid $20 for the barrel at a yard sale, which works out to $400 worth of bar and chain oil at retail prices. You're right it's too thick for gearboxes. Thinking of Alaska, I think you'd enjoy reading TM9-2855. They do things like dilute 10W motor oil with gasoline to keep it fluid at 65 below.
