Good segment on 60 minutes tonight about the worldwide depletion of the aquifers. My opinion: The availability of water will eventually be the number one determinant of land value.
I live in the desert. If the water table drops to the point it's uneconomical or impossible to get water, the land around here will become next to worthless.
This town is called, "Apple Valley". At one time, it competed with Washington state growing apples. A town near here is called Lucerne, which is another name for Alfalfa. Now, neither apples nor alfalfa are grown around here much because the price of getting water made it cost prohibitive.
