with this truck project.
So theres a car show in Porterville, south of my town by about 30 minutes today. Its at Veterans Park, put on by a big car club in Porterville. Hear its big, wanna go.
So I get up early, get everything join and head down. Registration starts at 8. I leave at 630 just in case. Good thing I did.
Death shimmy makes a 30 minute drive take me nearly two hours, can't get over 25mph.
Ok, fine, i deal with that. Have what I thought was a great showing. I just happened to get assigned to the spot at the bottom of the Huey helicopter on display at Veterans Park. So now everyone thinks my truck is a military one, course the M101 trailer doesn't help them think otherwise.
So half hour after Im there a guy walks up to me and says, you own this rig? Yep. Well, Id like to present you with this. and he hands be a plaque.
Seems each sponsor of the car show, besides the car club, gets to award a vehicle of their choice an award with their name on it. Turns out mine was awarded by the Porterville Elks Lodge. SWEET! My first award! at my second show.
Bought a few raffle tickets, won two prizes, bought some 50/50 tickets, missed winning 1200 bucks by two numbers.
Then as the show is breaking down, another guy says, hey are you leaving soon. Well , I was planning on it. He says can you stick around for a few minutes. Seems there was a Vietnam Vet that recently passed. His family was having a memorial service at the park, under the helicopter display. And since I had a "military" truck they wanted me as the background. Ok, sure, no problem.
Thats done, I start the journey home. Death shimmy is still there, so it takes about an hour and a half to get home. Pull in the street in front of the house to shuffle vehicles and unhook the trailer to put it in the garage with my Dakota. Get the trailer in. Go to move the Power Wagon in and PULL it in the driveway instead of back it in, so I can tear the front axle apart, cuz Im startin to get irritated. Big puddle of oil under the passenger side rear tire.
So I look under it, diff oil slung all over the inside of the rear wheel and tire, Almost pouring out of the brake adjustment bolts.
I just rolled the windows up, locked the doors and came in. Don't even wanna deal with that now. What a sucky way to end a good day.
I forgot my camera, but I have some pics on my phone, when I get them off Ill post a few.
