thats a good sign if all the oil is coming from right above the lower adjusting bolts. the backing plate has a catch system built into it for when the seal fails the gear oil gets directed through a hole and runs down outside the backing plate protecting the shoes from the gear oil. Many dont realize this design is there. usually full of dirt and hard to see. But if its clean it works really well and shoes will not get contaminated. Its one of the only full floating axles I have ever seen that has it. the spicer 70s in the 60s dodges had a similar set up.
