I'm attempting to remove the bed from my 55 FFPW and have run into some problems. There was a large sheet of steel in the bed that I finally wrangled out revealing some interesting things. The center strips for the most part look in good condition. Obviously, the wood is shot and the edge strips are questionable.
First, whomever had it before me welded in some triangular braces at the rear of the bed. I guess these will have to be cut out in order to get the sides free?
Second, the upper captive nut on the driver's side hinge is turning. Any ideas on how to get at it? I removed the bottom one ok. The passenger side came off but the upper bolt snapped. I guess I'll have to drill that one out?
Third, the center hinge has one of the Phillips screw head buggered up. Drill these out? judging by the rest of the nuts/bolts/screws, these are frozen too.
Last, there looks to be some extra hardware in the form of six "straps" by each fender well. They appear to be welded to the fender well piece? Does my bed hardware appear to be correct or are the pieces by the fender wells hacked and pieced together? That is the way they appear to me. There also appears to be some extra bolts in the wood?
View the slideshow and you can see what I'm talking about.
Thanks in advance!
Clark
