you can't prime a 230 that way. The oil pump on a 230 has the drive gear to the cam and the dist connects to the pump via a shaft with a off set slot ( no gear) so you can't turn the pump since its attached/geared to the cam. Now if WOJ shows up he'll tell you about the infamous "Fiber Gasket" that he used to use to prime 230's (LOL). In the meantime I've packed pumps with Lubriplate Motor assembly grease ( #105 ) and I've also used vasoline.
